Furries are a race of harmless creatures exist in a dimension close to Earth's. Through some stroke of blind luck, Starfinger's main weapon was capable of teleporting these creatures to Earth. They were easily commanded to do his bidding and steal for him. After prolonged exposure to the environment of Earth, the Furries drift into the atmosphere and transform into horrendous crab-like creatures. The Furries then began feeding on Earth's ionosphere. This caught the attention of the Legion of Superheroes as the ionosphere was crucial toward protecting Earth from the Sun's harmful rays.
The Legion of Substitute Heroes discovered the connection between the Furries and the creatures in space and delivered Starfinger to the Legion. Upon Bouncing Boy and Lightning Lad's interest, Brainiac 5 scanned Starfinger's weapon and verified the Substitutes' claim. After attaching the glove to his custom cannon, Brainiac 5 teleported the Furries back to their own dimension.

Furries often wear a Fursuit. This does not make them weird. If they do not, it does not make them any less of who they are. You can wear what you want and be who you want. They often get bullied.
