History[]
New Metropolis, formerly Metropolis, was discovered in 1542 by the Italian navigator Vincenzo Gnanatti. The first settlement was established by the Algonquin Native American tribe but was later occupied by the Dutch in 1634. It quickly evolved into a major seaport and later served as a crucial military location during the Revolutionary War. In 1775, the Daily Planet newspaper was founded. In 1847, Hob's Bay was the undisputed mercantile center. The city of Metropolis soon became informally dominated by the Luthor family, all visionaries of the future. Because of this, its most common nickname was "the City of Tomorrow." It later became home to Superman, Metropolis' new favorite son.
Sometime after the 21st century, the city was rebuilt and upgraded to an unparalleled splendor. It was renamed New Metropolis and was later home to the Legion of Superheroes.
