Night Girl aka Lydda Jath was born on Kathoon, a world of perpetual darkness. When the Legion of Superheroes debuted, Jath quickly developed a crush on Cosmic Boy. She wanted to meet him but concluded that she would have to be a Legionnaire in order to approach him. However, she had no powers. Undaunted, Jath asked her father, a notable scientist, to bioengineer a power for her. The process was a success and she received super strength. As Night Girl she applied to the Legion of Superheroes. However, she discovered that light neutralized her power. Because of this major weakness she was rejected but continued to apply.
