The Phantom Zone is a unique area of interdimensional space. Kryptonians banished their most dangerous criminals to the Zone in a non-corporeal molecular state. The people of Bgtzl refer to the Zone as the Bgztl Buffer Zone and shunt their mass there when they use their powers of intangibility.
A group of Legionnaires were mistakenly transported to the Phantom Zone. Brainiac 5 used an on board system array to broadcast and draw power from Lightning Lad to escape. A certain escape velocity was required but their was a risk that Phantom Girl was be left in a non-corporeal state due to her connection to the Zone. Phantom Girl was able to survive the ordeal intact but suffered momentary nausea.
